My Journey

How did I come here? 

Most of us were born in New Zealand. 

Some of our family members -Parents or Grandparents came to New Zealand for a better life

Find out how your parents/grandparents came here and how they have settled in New Zealand. 

To do this you will need to interview a family member and get them to answer these questions please record answers on this Google Document or make a movie at home interviewing your parents.

Then write a report on your findings. Please include a photograph of your family member that you

have interviewed. 

From there you can create a DLO / movie on your parent/grandparents journey. 

1. Where was your birthplace? In Sri Lanka

2. When did you come to New Zealand? April 2018

3. What was the reason for coming to New Zealand? Did you have family here?

To get settled in New Zealand

4. Why did you choose New Zealand as a place to visit and stay?

Because it’s safe, clean and it is a beautiful country.

5. How did you travel to New Zealand? Were there any stops on the way to

New Zealand?

The transit point was in Malaysia

6. Where in New Zealand did you visit and ended up staying? In Auckland 

7. How did you find the people when you first arrived?

The people are kind, friendly and so supportive.

8. How different was New Zealand compared to your birthplace? 

It’s clean and less crowded but most importantly all the basic needs available

9. Did you go through any transition shock or homesickness when you came here?

Yes especially living the family behind was hard

10. Where is home now? New Zealand or your birthplace?

New Zealand is my home now

11. What are some of the things you miss about your birthplace?

My parents and the food

12. Have you been back to your birthplace?  Unfortunately due to travel

restrictions I couldn’t travel to my home country.

My name is Ethan. I am from Saudi Arabia and I am a Year 5. I am in Room 2. I was raised in Saudi Arabia. I moved to the Philippines and then moved to New Zealand. I have speak two languages at home. I have two brothers their names are Kuya Kiel (Kuya means older brother in Filipino) and Ashton (including me). My interests are writing and reading. I like reading books and playing in the park. I am looking forward to being above in writing so my Mum and Dad are impressed. My goal is to be better at writing. Other goals include making lots of friends, being responsible, and taking care of my brother. I would like to get better at cricket and other sports.
